*WHO
WE ARE
Mayan Treasures was founded in 1998 as an initiative
of the FAFIDESS Foundation, which is a private Guatemalan
development organization that is non-lucrative and
functions without political, governmental, or religious
ties. FAFIDESS was founded in 1986 and currently offers
microcredit, training, and commercialization programs
to more than 5,000 indigenous Mayan women.

*The
goals of Mayan Treasures are:
•To promote Mayan handicrafts in national and international
markets, ensuring the quality of products and designs
that are adapted to the different markets.
•To train the artisans in topics such as micro-business,
quality, and marketing.

Goals that Mayan Treasures has already achieved:
•
Currently exports to the United States, Spain, Germany, Japan,
Mexico, and Costa Rica.
•An artisans store in Barcelona, Spain.
•In 2000, it participated in the largest decoration fair
in Europe: Tendence (held in Frankfurt, Germany).
• A network of 8 community stores that act as distribution
centers for the various departments of Guatemala.
*Mayan
Treasures has a program of quality control so that they
can guarantee that the threads used for their products will
not stain, bleed, or contain contaminates.
